It’s National BBQ Week, and while this 25th annual celebration of all things grilling and alfresco might have been postponed from May this year because of the Covid lockdowns, it probably couldn’t have been better timed.
As a nation, it’s obvious we’ve never treasured our outside space more and certainly most of us have never been so keen to get together with friends and family after months of restrictions.
Unsurprisingly, the stats compiled by the people behind https://nationalbbqweek.co.uk/ show that BBQ and at-home eating has become the UK’s favourite summer home leisure activity. In fact, we’re now the biggest barbie lovers in Europe – hosting an estimated 150 million between us every year.
If you think it’s all sausages and burgers though, think again! Chicken is now the UK’s favourite BBQ food, with a veggie or plant-based option on offer around 30% of the time. We’re still fairly evenly divided when it comes to the question of charcoal or gas – with a 43%/47% split between the camps (presumably the remaining 10% have both!) But things are changing on the question of whether the BBQ is male territory. Women are reportedly taking over the tongs almost half the time.
The British love of the BBQ is certainly one of the reasons then why we’re seeing record demand for AluK’s bi-folding and sliding door systems. They’re the perfect way to open up our homes to the garden and create fabulous indoor/outdoor entertaining spaces for the friends and family we’ve missed so much.
Effortlessly easy to open and close and available in a vast range of colours and configurations to suit any home or garden, they make it easier to enjoy where you live – as well as enhancing the value of course.
Summer might be peak BBQ season, but almost a quarter of us BBQ in the Spring and a quarter of a million people even claim to have cooked their Christmas dinner on the barbie. So, the fact that AluK’s high performance doors do such a great job of keeping the heat in and the wind and rain out is just as important!
All the information on our door options to fit your home, your garden or even your garden room, are available here.
