With inflation easing and mortgage rates falling, homeowners are increasingly turning their attention to home improvement projects. Our latest research reveals a surge in interest for new doors and windows, outpacing even kitchens and bathrooms in popularity. Discover why these essential home upgrades are top of mind for homeowners and how AluK can help you transform your property.

Inflation is down and we’re finally seeing some positive signs when it comes to mortgage rates, which is great news for both the housing and the renovation markets.

Cost of living pressures are easing, and confidence is growing, and that is translating into renewed interest in home improvement projects.

Our independent quarterly research shows that no fewer than 11% of homeowners are planning on investing in new doors over the next year, while 9% are planning on investing in new windows. (That compares with 13% considering a new bathroom and 9% a new kitchen).

Kitchens and bathrooms are always a popular choice of course, but doors and windows are very much on the up. In fact, over the next 2-5 years, the number of homeowners planning new doors and windows is a massive 20%.

There are plenty of reasons for that – from improving the look and value of your home and making it work better for you and your lifestyle, to improving energy efficiency.

In fact, in Ideal Home magazine’s list of the top 10 renovation trends for 2024, all three of those featured. Number 2, for example, is a trend towards picture windows and floor to ceiling glass for uninterrupted views internally and externally,  Number 3 is reconfiguring your home rather than extending to reduce overall costs and Number 10 is  saving energy.

We’ve got dozens of examples of how AluK’s windows and doors can enhance the look and value (add links to selected case studies) of almost any style of property, and lots of options for contemporary or traditional homes. Have a look at our 58BW ST range of for instance, for a durable and cost effective alternative to steel windows and our 58BW Flush for the ideal low maintenance alternative to timber.

If you decide you want to reconfigure your home, then AluK’s bifold and sliding doors are the perfect option for open plan living and maximising views out and natural light in.

And, when it comes to energy efficiency, AluK’s high performance windows and doors don’t just meet the very latest performance standards, they exceed them. You can choose triple glazing for the ultimate in performance, but many of our systems achieve low U-Values with double glazing, which tends to be more affordable and easier to install.
